A gang of armed robbers terrorised residents of Broederstroom on Sunday during three armed house robberies within hours of each other./p
The first incident took place around 21:30 on a farm along the Lanseria Road. “A woman living in a flat on the property heard footsteps outside and called her employer in the main house. Five men, three armed with firearms, and two with steel pipes, broke through the sliding door to her flat,” said Romano van der Spuy, spokesperson for the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
The woman tried to get away through a window, but another robber was waiting outside. The robbers held her at gunpoint while ransacking her property and fled with a television set, clothes and shoes.
An hour later, just a few kilometres away, a man was woken by a knock on his door. “He asked who it was and three armed men kicked down the door and demanded money at gunpoint. When he told them he had no money, he was assaulted and the robbers fled with a television set and cellphone,” Van der Spuy said.
Around the same time, in the same area, two friends watching television were overpowered by four armed men. They were kicked and assaulted with a spanner and firearm before the robbers fled with cellphones and a television set.
“No arrests have been made and the Hartbeespoort police are searching for the men,” Van der Spuy said.
