Special Advisory regarding the use of fireworks during the festive season and/or any other season.
Regulation 10.34 issued in terms of section 30 of the Explosives Act 1956 states that it is unlawful for any person to use or explode any fireworks as follows:
(A) within 500 mt of any explosives magazine, explosive factory or fuel depot.
(B) Any building or public thoroughfare.
(C) Any other place or resort except the prior written permission of the Local Authority (Madibeng Fire and Disaster Management).
We therefore make an urgent appeal to all community members to refrain from using or exploding fireworks.
It should also be noted that the unlawful use of fireworks also results in the following:
1) It is very harmful to animals creating disorientation and chaos.
2) It can become a serious fire hazard.
especially in rural areas and where thatch roofs are involved.
3) It creates confusion and allows criminals to act undetected and fire shots during such displays and/or even blow up ATMs.
Please act responsibly and advise all your friends to desist from using fireworks in the interests of public and animal safety.
